Jay Kogan

Deputy General Counsel
DC Comics & MAD Magazine

Jay Kogan is the Deputy General Counsel for DC Comics and MAD Magazine.  His primary areas of practice include print, film, television, multimedia and online publishing and licensing, and he is the company’s chief intellectual property counsel.  In addition to serving as an adjunct professor at New York Law School, Kogan teaches “Copyright Law Today” at Purchase College, State University of New York, and he has taught both live and online courses for the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies’ E-Commerce and E-Business program.

Jay Kogan is co-chair of the Copyright and Trademark Committee of the New York State Bar Association Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section, and he is an active member and former New York Chapter Chair of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. Kogan is a frequent lecturer on copyright and trademark law and licensing, having served as faculty for the Practicing Law Institute’s Advanced Licensing programs and its programs on Representing the New Media Company, the National Business Institute’s Internet Law seminar, and the National Conference and Research Group’s program on Protecting & Managing Online Content.  Mr. Kogan has had articles published on copyright and trademark law, character protection, advertising law, and broadcast regulation.

Kogan received his J.D. and Masters Degree in Mass Media in a dual degree program at Boston University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Connecticut.
