He has been a member of the New York Bar since 1978 and the Florida Bar since 1981.  Jim currently serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Nicklaus Companies, LLC, and related entities controlled by Jack Nicklaus.  In his current position, Jim is responsible for all legal aspects of the planning and execution of a variety of business activities related to the sport of golf and the Nicklaus endorsement and trademarks, including golf course design, real estate development and licensing, golf equipment manufacturing, golf marketing and promotions, and brand licensing and management.  During Jim’s association with Jack Nicklaus, who was named “Player of the Century” by Golf magazine in 1986, Mr. Nicklaus has built his Nicklaus Design firm into a position of world leadership in golf course design and promotion and has been recognized for the last four consecutive years as “The Most Powerful Person in Golf” by Golf Inc. magazine for his influence upon and contributions to the sport and related industries.

In his capacity as a member and shareholder of the North Palm Beach, Florida, law firm of Haile, Shaw & Pfaffenberger, P.A., Jim has devoted a major portion of his legal career to the sport and business of golf since 1985 as lead outside counsel to various Nicklaus business organizations and other clients involved in the sport as professional golfers, golf course designers, and marketers.  Prior to joining that firm at its inception in February of 1983, Jim was associated with the Palm Beach, Florida, office of Schulte Roth & Zabel, and the New York offices of White & Case.  Jim has served since 2002 as a program co-chair and lecturer on legal issues related to golf for various annual resort development conferences held in Florida and Colorado by CLE International of Denver, Colorado. He is also the author of "New York Choice of Law in Celebrity Endorsement Contracts—Safe Harbor or Oxymoron", an article originally published in the Summer 2002 issue of the New York State Bar Association Journal of Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law, and republished in the course materials for the 2003 ALI/ABA National Institute for Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law.
