New York Law School received more than 4500 applications for admission for 2010 from prospective law students from throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad.

The Application Form and Requirements

New York Law School requires that all students who enroll in the J.D. program must have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university, or the foreign equivalent. Students in their senior year of college may apply for admission and receive an offer of admission prior to completion of their undergraduate programs, but such admission is contingent upon the successful completion of the bachelors degree.

The New York Law School application for admission is easy to complete and is structured to be modular. The application sections are: Biographical Information; Family Information; Education & Testing; Employment & Community Service; Law School Interest; Character & Fitness; and Certification. Applications may only be submitted in electronic format using the LSAC Electronic Application Service. Applicants who document a disability that cannot be accommodated by the LSAC service will be provided a paper application. The following are required to complete an application for admission: a current subscription to the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) with a score from the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) taken no more than five years from the anticipated start of law school studies; a resume or curriculum vitae; and at least one letter of recommendation. Up to three letters of recommendation may be submitted - the LSAC Evaluation may be substituted for one or two of the additional recommendation letters, but at least one letter of recommendation must be submitted. A personal statement or application essay is not required, but may be submitted as an optional item.

Candidates are encouraged to make choices about what to submit in their application to enable us to obtain a fuller picture of their individual qualities. We invite you to determine the material that best conveys relevant information.

Application Fee

New York Law School does not charge an application fee for JD applications submitted electronically.

The Admission Process 

Applications may be submitted as early as September 1st. Priority consideration will be given to all applications submitted and completed by April 1st, with those received or completed after this date being considered on a space-available basis. Applications received after the April 1 priority consideration deadline will be actively considered for admission and merit scholarship. Decisions are made on a continuing basis beginning in December until the process is complete, generally in late May. Candidates will be notified of our decision the same week in which a decision is made.

Candidates are invited to contact the Office of Admissions and speak to an admission advisor with their questions regarding the application process or requirements. Visits to the Law School, including an information session and tour or a classroom visit, can also be arranged by contacting the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Interviews are scheduled, only at the request of the admission committee.

New York Law School seeks to enroll students who, in addition to possessing strong academic credentials and LSAT scores, have proven abilities in other areas. Subjective factors considered in evaluating applications include excellence in a particular field of study, motivation, progression of grades, strength of undergraduate curriculum, work and community service experience, graduate study in other disciplines, and extra-curricular activities. No single undergraduate program can be designated as the best preparation for law training at New York Law School therefore we do not require any particular undergraduate major or concentration. Successful law students have come from virtually every type of undergraduate background. Students should choose difficult courses from demanding instructors and incorporate into their choices on courses and activities the skills and values that are essential for competent lawyering: Analytic and Problem-Solving Skills; Critical Reading Abilities; Writing Skills; Oral Communication and Listening Abilities; General Research Skills; Task Organization and Management Skills; and Serving Others and Promoting Justice.
