The Institute for Professional Ethics at New York Law School hosts a series of programs, symposia, and master classes for students and practitioners to create an ongoing dialogue about professional ethics. The Institute works with the school’s centers for Innovation, Business Law, Real Estate, as well as the Impact Center and the Criminal Justice Project to explore the ethical issues that arise in different practice areas. We focus on the role of the lawyer and future of the legal profession and law-related services in the U.S. and abroad. Students learn about law practice in a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional practice settings—from the law office to the court room to the board room to emerging virtual networks and legal process outsourcing firms. The goal of the Institute is to provide students with a sophisticated understanding of modern law practice and to equip students with the judgment and integrity needed to deal with the complex ethical and moral questions that lawyers confront.
