This session will highlight some of the most important enforcement strategies that brands are currently using to protect their intellectual property in the fashion industry, both online and offline. Specifically, this session will address online enforcement strategies for removing infringing content on trade boards, auction sites, and social media websites. It will also include a discussion on the rise of 3D printing and its online marketplaces, as well as some of the civil and criminal methods being used to police counterfeit goods on the Internet. If time permits, this session will also highlight the importance of supplementing online enforcement strategies with brick-and-mortar (offline) enforcement, as well as the critical role that successful private investigations play in the litigation process, both online and offline. This session will conclude with a discussion on developing broad IP training programs (including those for federal and state law enforcement) and also public education initiatives that include a focus on raising awareness about counterfeiting on the Internet and beyond.
