Event Details

Last year, the State of New York enacted the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA), popularly known as the law that legalizes the adult recreational use of cannabis. MRTA also provides a legal framework that will turn the once-illegal marijuana industry into a highly regulated, commercial enterprise through a licensing system that oversees the cultivation, processing, distribution, and sale of cannabis and cannabis products in New York and which will also prioritize licenses to certain applicants who have been disproportionately impacted by the War on Drugs.

Michael C. McQueeny, Counsel in the national cannabis practice at Foley Hoag LLP, and Charles Messina ’08, Partner and Co-Chair of the cannabis law practice at Genova Burns LLC, will give an overview of MRTA and discuss the status of its regulations, including those that will oversee MRTA’s licensing system.
