The program will address the U.S. tax issues that arise when a U.S. citizen marries a nonresident alien and the couple intend to live in the United States. Topics will include an overview of the rules for determining resident, nonresident, and dual status for a tax year, determining the couple’s new status for tax filing, how to treat the non-U.S. citizen spouse’s income (such as the foreign earned income exclusion), and certain pre-immigration planning considerations for the non-U.S. citizen spouse.
