Board of Trustees Chair Arthur N. Abbey ’59, Dean Anthony W. Crowell, and Associate Dean William P. LaPiana cordially invite you to welcome Professor Stephen J. Ellmann’s new master work. Ellmann, NYLS’s Lester Martin Professor of Law, will discuss the central themes of the book as we celebrate it at a special lunch reception.
His recently completed book, And Justice for All: Arthur Chaskalson and the Struggle for Equality in South Africa, is the latest addition to Professor Ellmann’s extensive scholarship on human rights, social justice, and constitutional law topics. Combining Professor Ellmann’s longstanding engagement with South Africa and the struggle for the rule of law there with his clinical perspective on legal ethics and lawyering skills, the book chronicles the extraordinary life and legacy of the late Arthur Chaskalson, the first President of South Africa’s Constitutional Court and a friend of Professor Ellmann’s beginning in the late 1980s.
To draw out discussion on the book’s key themes, Professor Penny Andrews will interview Professor Ellmann. She most recently served as Dean of the University of Cape Town Faculty of Law and has co-led NYLS’s South Africa Reading Group with Professor Ellmann for many years.
Please join us to honor one of our community’s most respected, prolific, and beloved scholars and clinicians on this tremendous accomplishment.
