Homer Venters, M.D., is a physician and an expert in the health risks of imprisonment. Last year, he wrote a book titled, “Life and Death in Rikers Island,” which provides a detailed view of the deadly consequences of incarceration. In the midst of new criminal justice reform sweeping New York, Dr. Venters will join students and NYLS faculty to discuss the intricacies of mental health in jails, specifically those pertaining to Rikers Island.
