(Lunch Lecture) International Treaties: An Overview

Treaties, one of the foundations of international law, define the legal responsibilities of States in areas such as human rights, commercial relations, peace and security, and more. What are the steps and rules involved when joining a treaty? What is the role of the United Nations in the treaty process?

Dina Hamdy, a Legal Officer in the Treaty Section of the Office of Legal Affairs at United Nations headquarters in New York, will give a broad overview of the treaty-making process and explain important concepts.
