Nations emerging from conflict must rebuild infrastructure, maintain peace, and provide for basic needs. However, none of this is possible unless their security sectors—police, defense forces, and justice systems—are reformed and made accountable to their populations through principles like good governance and the rule of law.
Snezana Vuksa-Coffman—the Deputy Chief of the Security Sector Reform Unit of the United Nations Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions—will discuss the role of the United Nations in security sector reform, including its policies, best practices, and lessons learned.
