This course explains the role of the Guardian ad Litem with an emphasis on service in Surrogate’s Court proceedings. The course provides an overview of numerous Surrogate Court proceedings in which a Guardian ad Litem may be appointed and provide detailed information on the statutory basis for the qualification and appointment of Guardians ad Litem. Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will be eligible to apply for placement on the Part 36 lists from which Surrogate judges select Guardians ad Litem.

This upper-level seminar course covers the legal, practical, and administrative concepts related to the Guardian ad Litem process and proceedings in Surrogate’s Court.
