For Employers

As employers of New York Law School students know, our students are bright, hardworking, and practice-ready.

The Office of Academic Planning and Career Development’s Employer Relations Team is dedicated to providing attention and service to employers. We’re ready to help with any recruiting needs you have and identify students most suited to your needs. Submit your jobs online through the NYLS Job Posting Form, email [email protected], or call 212.431.2345 to speak with a member of our Employer Relations Team. We welcome your interest and look forward to working with you!

Posting a Legal Job

To post an open position, you must have completed an employer profile in our job database—hosted by Symplicity. Legal employers may register directly through the Symplicity Employer login page to request a username and a password. Alternatively, contact us at 212.431.2345 or [email protected]. When you are ready to post the position, our system allows you to specify your hiring criteria, application materials, and  the manner and timeframe in which you hear from interested applicants.

Recruitment Programs

We welcome legal employers and other organizations to participate in our recruitment programs and to engage with NYLS students through virtual and in-person recruitment opportunities.

Employers may register to participate in On Campus Interviews (OCI) or Résumé Collect (RC) programs, both coordinated by our office. These programs connect employers—including law firms, corporate legal departments, courts, government agencies, public interest organizations, and other law-related employers—with highly qualified NYLS students and graduates for semester, summer, and post-graduate employment.

Employers participating in OCI select candidates from a pool of qualified NYLS applicants and choose their preferred interview format and dates. Employers participating in the RC Program interview selected candidates at their own offices or virtually.

In addition, NYLS coordinates a Public Sector Interview Week each August/September for government and public interest employers seeking to recruit for semester, summer, and post-graduate career opportunities.

NYLS requires all participating entities to follow recruitment practices consistent with principles of fairness, equal opportunity, and professional responsibility, and welcomes employer participation that reflects these values within the legal hiring process.

There is no fee for employers to participate in our recruitment programs. Registration is available through the Symplicity Employer login page under the "Recruitment/Schedule Request" tab.

For questions or additional information, please contact Lynnore Thames ’04, Executive Director of Employer and Alumni Relations, at 212.431.2159 or [email protected].

Hire an Extern

All NYLS externships are positions that run concurrently with the School's academic calendar. Student externs earn academic credits for their work at a court or law office. They are required to work 140 hours a semester (10 to 12 hours per week in the fall and spring semesters). These positions may be paid or unpaid. We encourage private sector employers to consider paid externship placements.

Law offices may post an externship position using the NYLS Job Form. Once a law office selects a student, the student must apply to participate in the externship course, and NYLS will contact the placement to discuss the externship. To confirm participation, the mentor attorney, student extern, and faculty member supervising the externship will sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

Judges interested in hosting NYLS externs may contact the Office of Academic Planning and Career Development for more information at 212.431.2345 or [email protected].
