Entertainment Law
This course provides an introduction to the legal and business principles governing the development and exploitation of entertainment content across multiple media, including publishing, film and TV, music, live stage, and video games, while also touching on legal issues arising from AI and in connection with social media and influencers. Serving as a foundation for advanced study in Film and Television Production, the course emphasizes intellectual property, contract structures, and rights allocation rather than production-specific practices.
Students will examine how rights are created, acquired, and monetized, with a focus on rights ownership, copyright, and the contractual frameworks used to control and exploit content across media. Particular attention is given to chain of title and the ways in which a single property may be adapted and distributed in multiple forms, requiring distinct legal analysis at each stage.
