The Honorable Alton Ronald Waldon, Jr. (1936–2023) was an esteemed alumnus of New York Law School. The founder of the NYLS chapter of the Black Law Students Association, Congressman Waldon was the first African American elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Queens County. For nearly a decade, he served as a New York State Senator and also presided as a Judge on the New York Court of Claims. His memory and legacy will live on by assisting future NYLS students who aim to follow in his footsteps and work toward fulfilling their professional goals through this scholarship.
