Civil Rights Public Sector Field Placement
This course will expose students to principles of civil rights advocacy and enable them to directly experience access to justice for individuals facing discrimination in areas such as employment, housing, and public accommodations. The class component will be focused on civil rights principles and practical skills development. The overall goal will be to meaningfully expose students to civil rights enforcement directly applicable to a range of careers in government, advocacy organizations, and private civil rights practices. Students will work 10–12 hours per week in supervised placements at either the New York City Commission on Human Rights or the New York State Division of Human Rights.
Approved for the Experiential Learning Requirement. Enrollment is limited. Registration is binding. Application is required and can be found in Student Resources on the NYLS Portal.
