Criminal courts across the country impose hefty fines as well as a stunning array of user fees on millions of criminal defendants every year and punish those who cannot pay. Activists and people who have been directly impacted by criminal justice debt are demanding reform, and in some jurisdictions, they have achieved major victories.

Join Anna G. Cominsky ’05, Associate Professor of Law, New York Law School; Antonya Jeffrey, New York State Director for the Fines and Fees Justice Center; Justin Murray, Associate Professor of Law, New York Law School; and Melissa Taylor, an advocate who has been directly impacted by criminal justice debt to discuss the problem of criminal justice debt and the movement calling for reform.

The Criminal Justice Institute is housed within the Wilf Impact Center for Public Interest Law.
