Civilians have always found themselves trapped in armed conflict, enduring a toll ranging from injury and death to hunger and displacement. How does international law safeguard vulnerable populations? What obligations do warring parties have toward civilians, and how well are they upheld? Are current measures sufficient, or is there a need for stronger action? Nathalie Weizmann, Senior Legal Officer at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, will discuss these questions and others during this fireside chat.

Event Chair: Ruti G. Teitel, Ernst C. Stiefel Professor of Comparative Law at New York Law School; Co-Director, Center for International Law and the Institute for Global Law, Justice, and Policy; and author of Presidential Visions of Transitional Justice: An American Legacy of Responsibility and Reconciliation (Oxford University Press, 2025).

This event is for the NYLS community only. Outside visitors will not be admitted.
