The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury administers and enforces economic sanctions against individuals, foreign nations, and groups whose activities threaten U.S. national security. The effectiveness of these sanctions depends on whether the private sector and other covered entities understand their obligations and diligently comply with them.

In his lecture, Lawrence Scheinert, who oversees enforcement, compliance, and private sector outreach programs as the Associate Director for Compliance and Enforcement at OFAC, will give an overview of OFAC’s work and describe its sanctions, discuss its engagement with the private sector on best practices in compliance, review enforcement actions concerning violations, and discuss challenges facing OFAC in the years ahead.
