The American Bar Association (ABA) recognizes Monday, October 10, as Law School Mental Health Day. In recognition of this day, New York Law School (NYLS) will host a Mental Health Awareness and Wellness Week from Monday, October 10 to Thursday, October 13. Join us for activities and discussions highlighting positive mental health and wellness practices. This programming is one part of a larger initiative at NYLS to support the mental health and well-being of our community and students.

Monday, October 10 to Thursday, October 13 
Throughout the week, we encourage students to write a positive message on an NYLS Wellness Board. There will be several located around campus including in the 185 West Broadway Lobby, Fifth Floor Cafeteria, outside of the Events Center, and in the lower-level Student Center.

You can also share your strategies for managing stress and well-being as a law student and/or photos of you engaging in your favorite self-care activity with us on social using #NYLSStudentWellness. Be sure to stop by the NYLS Mental Health and Wellness photo booth located in the Fifth Floor Cafeteria as well.

Monday, October 10: Law School Mental Health Day and World Mental Health Day
Panel: Perspectives and Strategies for Managing Mental Health and Well-Being in Law School and Beyond

Join us for a moderated panel discussion and Q&A with attorney and mental health commentator Mike Kasdan, Professor Lynn Su, NYLS Clinical Social Worker Sophia Soloway, Assistant Dean Shani Darby, Rhea Lobo ’23, and James Scavone ’24. Moderated by Dean Anthony Crowell. Lunch will be provided.

Tuesday, October 11
Flu Shots and COVID-19 Boosters
At the NYLS Annual Wellness Event, flu shots and COVID-19 booster shots will be available for students, staff, and faculty from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Commons (Second Floor, W Building). Visit www.nyls.edu/annualflushot to reserve your slot by Monday, October 10. You can get one or both shots on this day. Please check with your physician if you have any questions. 

Wednesday, October 12
Mindfulness Guided Meditation

An experienced yoga and meditation expert will come to campus to discuss the benefits of meditation with the NYLS community and explain how this health technique can be easily incorporated into everyday routines. In addition to the guest speaker, Professor Lynn Su will offer some introductory remarks regarding her work with students in her Mindfulness Lawyering course. This event is open to students, faculty, and staff, and will include an interactive breathing exercise and a Q&A at the end. Registration is required by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11.

Latin American Law Student Association (LALSA) Presents Salsa Lessons in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and the important connection between physical activity and overall well-being with a salsa dance lesson hosted by LALSA. Light snacks will be provided.
