Wearing denim on this day has become an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual violence including that a victim’s clothing equals consent. The campaign originated from global public outrage after a 1999 Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them, thereby implying consent.
Arianna Argotte, LMHC, Program Manager of the Wyckoff Hospital Violence Intervention and Treatment Program will join us on April 28 to provide information to help counter victim blaming and misconceptions about sexual assault.
Stop by to say hello and to learn strategies to keep our communities safe.
