An Introduction to Statutory Interpretation: “Should We Hang the Cannibals?”

The laws passed by legislatures (known as statutes) are often ambiguous and sometimes downright mystifying. How should we interpret them? In this simulated class, students will learn about and consider some of the methods that courts and lawyers use to make sense of statutes—and the stakes couldn’t be higher because the defendants in this case are facing execution.

Sit in on a class with NYLS Professor Brandt Goldstein, who teaches Legislation and Regulation, Civil Procedure, and Torts.
