Join New York Law School (NYLS) Professor Heidi Brown for an engaging, discussion-based session exploring how Generative AI is already shaping the legal profession.
Rather than getting lost in the noise of headlines about hype, risk, and speculation, this class will take a grounded, practical approach. Professor Brown will introduce:
· the basics of GenAI literacy for future lawyers.
· how “prompt engineering” applies to lawyering tasks.
· real-world examples of when lawyers, pro se litigants, expert witnesses, and even judges have faced consequences from misusing AI tools.
If you’re curious, cautious, or simply want to be prepared for the role AI will play in legal practice, this session is for you.
Professor Heidi K. Brown is Associate Dean for Upper Level Writing at New York Law School. A prolific scholar and author on the art and science of legal writing, she has published four books on predictive and persuasive legal writing and federal litigation and three books about well-being for law students and lawyers, including The Introverted Lawyer, Untangling Fear in Lawyering, and The Flourishing Lawyer: A Multi-Dimensional Approach to Performance and Well-Being.
Since 2023, Professor Brown has designed courses, workshops, webinars, and continuing legal education (CLE) programs on GenAI literacy, “prompt engineering,” and the ethical and responsible incorporation of GenAI tools into the legal research and writing workflow. Read more.
