International law has increasingly recognized victims not merely as beneficiaries of legal protection, but as participants and actors in processes of global justice. This shift has been particularly visible in international criminal justice, where developments before ad hoc and permanent international criminal tribunals have expanded opportunities for victims to participate in proceedings.

Drawing on international practice as well as her own fieldwork with victims, Dr. Rudina Jasini will examine the evolving role of victims in international law and their contribution to broader processes of global justice, highlighting both the advances and limitations of these developments.

Dr. Rudina Jasini, Senior Lecturer, University of Oxford; former Defence Counsel (Thaci et al.), Kosovo Specialist Chambers, The Hague; and former attorney, International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, The Hague.

Lecture Chair: Ruti G. Teitel, Ernst C. Stiefel Professor of Comparative Law at New York Law School; Director, Center for International Law and the Institute for Global Law, Justice, and Policy; and author of Globalizing Transitional Justice (Oxford University Press, 2014).
