Profile
Lynn Boepple Su is the Dean for Advocacy and Co-Curricular Programs and a Professor of Law at New York Law School. Committed to preparing students to become practice-ready lawyers, she currently teaches Trial Advocacy, Evidence, Deposition Skills, and Mindful Lawyering, a course she developed that focuses on using mindfulness principles to cultivate excellence in law practice and promote attorney well-being. Dean Su is also the Faculty Advisor for the NYLS Trial Competition Team, a co-curricular organization she helped establish in 2016.
Dean Su began her legal career as an assistant district attorney in Bronx County, New York, where she litigated cases in New York State and New York City courts and coordinated the investigation and prosecution of economic crimes. She broadened her legal experience as an associate at several New Jersey law firms, where she concentrated in civil litigation.
A longtime member of the NYLS community, Dean Su played a key role in shaping the Writing Program, the precursor to the Legal Practice Program. She served as Co-Director of the Writing Program for three years and as the Writing Specialist for five years. Drawing on her teaching and practice experience, she co-authored The Lawyer’s Craft: An Introduction to Legal Analysis, Writing, and Advocacy and Teacher’s Manual for The Lawyer’s Craft.
Dean Su enjoys speaking at regional and international conferences that allow legal educators and professionals to share teaching innovations, law practice trends, and wellness initiatives for law students and lawyers. She has presented on a wide variety of topics, including legal writing skills, teaching foreign-trained lawyers, cross-cultural communication in legal practice, helping students overcome imposter phenomenon, designing role-play exercises, and using yoga principles to enhance learning. Her recent speaking engagements, which include programs sponsored by the NYSBA Committee on Attorney Well-Being, have focused on attorney and law student wellness.
Dean Su is a 2018 recipient of the Global Legal Skills Award, presented at the 13th Global Legal Skills Conference held at Melbourne Law School in Melbourne, Australia, for “significant contributions to the promotion and improvement of global legal skills.” In 2023, Dean Su received a Fulbright Specialist Award to complete a project at the Facultad de Derecho Universidad de Chile; as a Fulbright Specialist, she designed and taught an experiential course that introduced Chilean law students and lawyers to the U.S. legal system, lawyering skills, and common law principles.
Dean Su is a member of the board of directors of the Mindfulness in Law Society, executive committee of the AALS Section on Balance in Legal Education, and advisory board of the Resilience and Engagement Project. In addition, she is a member of New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Attorney Well-Being and its Subcommittee on Law Education and Early Engagement. For the past decade, she has served on the New York State Bar Association’s Law, Youth, and Citizenship Committee and its Mock Trial Subcommittee, and she is a former co-chair of the Legal Writing Institute’s Clinical Cooperation Committee. Dean Su is a member of the bars of New York and District of Columbia (inactive).
